Quick and easy Quilted Coaster

Quilted Coaster Tutorial, perfect for beginners.

It feels like I’ve not been about for ages. I’ve had the dreaded lurgy this week. I’m back to almost feeling human again though so hoorah!

For Christmas this year I’m hoping to make my Nan a photo memory quilt, I’m really quite excited about it, I’ve not made a quilt before though.
This brings me to my tutorial. I decided to make a simple coaster with batting and quilted it (I think?).
It turned out really well I thought, considering I don’t have a stitch in the ditch foot yet. Only down side to this tutorial is you can see how bad I really am at straight lines.

Sew you’re a beginner?

Today I thought I would do a round up of a few links that have helped me since I started sewing. They’re fab for total beginners and will help save you searching all over, nice and handy all in one place.

Preblog makes! Sharing is caring after all.

Fridays are known to me as sewing days. My OH takes my 3 younger boys to his mums, meaning from 9am til the older 3 finish school at 3.10pm I’m free to sew up a storm 😀 Typically, since starting this blog my Fridays have suddenly become busy. I’ve just become a volunteer at a local hospice and this Friday is one of the training days, so no sewing for me then. The following Friday my eldest is having a school trip to France, which means I’ll be up at 4am ready to drop him off at school for 6am. I might get to sew but I have a feeling I’ll be catching up on some sleep. I decided, that seeing as I can’t post with my latest make I would instead show you some of my “preblog” (that totally is a word ;)) makes. So prepare for a pic heavy post, most are far from perfect, but with each mistake I am learning and that’s what it’s all about for me, learning as I sew.

Bandana dribble bib tutorial and free pattern.

My first tutorial, eek!

Baby steps.

Hi, this post is quite hard for me to write. I’m not good with introductions, but here it goes.

I’m Laura, I’m 31 and I live in Essex, UK with my (amazing) boyfriend Chris and my 6 (yes really) boys.

I’m pretty new to sewing, I’ve never really thought about it, I’ve always liked to think I’m creative and “arty” but truth is, I’m not very good at it so never really made much of an effort to try. That is until The Great British Sewing Bee, I persuaded (nagged) Chris to get me a sewing machine and last mothers day I finally got one! As you can imagine I don’t get much time to sew but when I do I love it.

I decided to start a blog, mainly, to see myself progress and learn, but also to show people you don’t need to have taken classes or be amazingly creative to be able to learn to sew. The blog name, for that you can thank (blame?) my little sister Michelle, for anyone into baking you should totally check out her blog, Giraffes Can Bake – see what I did!

For the most part this blog will be just me finding patterns and tutorials online and sharing my progress with you. Who knows, one day maybe I will be able to adapt my own ideas to these patterns or even make my own. First though, baby steps.

Hope to see you soon with my 1st project.
